Kanafeh (Konafa) recipe

You are going to use the following ingredients:

250 g      Kanafeh (you find this in every Egyptian bakery)
  50 g      melted butter
100 g      Nutella
    1 tbsp Hazelnuts
    1 tsp   Icing Sugar

These are the ingredients we are using in the video but feel free to try and mix whatever you like! There are absolutely no limits.

First we put the Kanafeh in a bowl and either rip it with hands or cut it with scissors in smaller pieces. Then we add the melted butter and mix it well.

Now start to pre-heat the baking oven on around 200° (depends on your model but it should work with this temperature).

Grab your muffin molds and start to fill them with the buttered Kanafeh. Press it in the mold and form a hole with your thumb (as shown in the video).

Put the molds on the tray and leave it in the oven (second level from down) for around 20 minutes or until it got a golden until brown color. The time here depends a lot on your oven, just have a regular look.

*traditionally we would add now sugar syrup to make the Kanafeh sweet and sticky that it stays in shape but my partner and me don't like this version*

As we are not adding sugar syrup, the Kanafeh is not sticky and will fall apart when trying to take it out of the molds. So we are leaving it in these molds to fill and eat.

Now we take the Nutella and fill it in the holes. On top I'm decorating it with the hazelnuts and a little icing sugar.

We tried as well versions with strawberry jam (my partner didn't like it, I did :-)) or with a little orange juice and fruit and my homemade orangeat (orange peel boiled in sugar and then dried) on top. If you don't add the sugar syrup, you are absolutely free with your creations as it is not sweet. You can add cheese or minced meat or whatever you can imagine!

I wish you a lot of fun and if you have any feedback for us, let us know!
